ERI Vision - To be a lodestar for environmental science research.

ERI Mission - To address contemporary environmental issues and advance understanding in the sustainable use of the earth’s natural resources through research excellence and innovative scientific leadership.

"The Environmental Research Institute (ERI) is a centre of aspiration. We work with public and private sector partners throughout Scotland, Europe and as far afield as the USA, China and Australia. We will continue to strengthen these relationships and create partnerships which deliver world-class research."  Prof Stuart W Gibb, Director of ERI.

ERI is based at Thurso, Caithness in the Highlands of Scotland. We are working hard with partners and clients on a variety of key themes and research priorities which are making a world of difference in environmental research.

As part of North Highland College, one of the academic partners in UHI (the emergent university for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland), ERI aspires to be a leader in its field. Our mission is to address contemporary environmental issues and advance understanding of the sustainable use of the Earth’s natural resources. We do this through research excellence and innovative scientific leadership.

Our prime location with direct access to world-class natural resources is the envy of other environmental scientists. It enables us to deliver research and learning facilities which have become internationally renowned.
