Wild Birds: ERI Researchers to Give Public Talk in Thurso

Two researchers connected with the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) are set to share their work and experiences of studying wild birds in Scotland and Japan at a special public talk in Thurso.

The event, ‘Wild Birds’, will take place on Tuesday 22nd September, from 6pm to 7.30pm at Thurso Library, with everyone welcome to attend.

The illustrated talk will feature Associate Professor Saiko Shiraki, a visiting researcher at UHI North, West and Hebrides, and Lucy Mortlock, a PhD researcher at ERI.

Saiko Shiraki, from Hokkaido Okhotsk Campus of Tokyo University of Agriculture, is currently spending six months working with Dr Elizabeth Masden at ERI. During the talk, she will introduce the wild birds of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, sharing insights into the region's birdlife and her research.

Lucy Mortlock will present an introduction to her PhD research on a rare duck species in Scotland, giving an insight into her work as an ERI researcher and the challenges of studying birds in the Scottish environment.

The event provides an opportunity to hear about bird research from two researchers working across very different northern environments, from Hokkaido in Japan to the Scottish Highlands.

The talk is being hosted at Thurso Library, with the event running from 6pm until 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
